The new works by Ariadne at CC have a very Wilhelm Sasnal feel to them. There is a lot of transparent overlapping of shapes. I like it. It reminds me of something I can't quite put my finger on. I keep wondering about technique and its relationship to freedom/democracy. Being fairly familiar with Ari's work, I know that she experiments with technique. To me, this type of experimentation is something that is indicative of the modernist tradition. I like this new transparency. Transparency is a nice metaphor for something our politicians could use more of.
This the most reccent work I have seen of Ariadne's and I was pleasently suprised. The subject is a very common experience that most kids grow up with and the painting has such movement, it makes me want to hop on. The tone in that sky blue is so subtle, it moves me around the picture plane. I also dance from one figure to another...In a way, trying to figure out what they might becoming to the carnival to escape from their real lives. Great movement!
